What You Do
Manage the organizational development function of a large, high-volume, cutting-edge automotive manufacturing operation with a focus on production labor. Following a PDCA cycle, the position is responsible for managing and improving processes to enable continued growth and success across the organization. Using appropriate leadership and collaboration, they will manage the development, promotion, and training programs for all production TMs, TLs, and GLs. They will represent Mazda Toyota Manufacturing (MTM) in the community to attract new talent and work with workforce management to ensure a stable pipeline of candidates to fill open positions.
As a part of the above, and on an ongoing basis will also:
- Establish strong team member relations, at all levels and provide support for people development, coaching and mentoring with a focus on teamwork and inclusion
- Collaborate with international team members from Mazda and Toyota or, other customers
- Support and execute HRD strategies, policies and systems based on the unique culture of Mazda Toyota Manufacturing (MTM) while ensuring continuous improvement (kaizen)
- Create and execute effective training & development strategies and programs
- Develop innovative shop-floor training techniques to maintain competitiveness
- Monitor, evaluate, and improve production TMs, TLs, and GLs team building, communication, and engagement skills
- Support MTM business objectives through continuous evaluation and implementation of comprehensive strategies that enable the company to effectively on-board (train & develop) team members at all levels of the organization.
- Development strategies that build talent pipelines from High School, Vocational Tech, Community Colleges
- Ensure effective use of the HRIS - LMS system and collaborate with internal departments and teams to provide data that meets business needs and objectives
- Monitor local operations and lead Kaizen (continuous improvement) activities to enhance HRD objectives
- Monitor, measure, analyze and support all HRD program activities to ensure effectiveness including development of diverse talent at all levels in the organization.
- Develop and deliver effective communication to inform management and team members of critical information related to relevant HRD programs and initiatives
- Implement various training methods companywide (e.g., mentoring, coaching, job shadowing, on-line training).
- Work with HRD specialists to design and deliver just-in-time e-learning courses, workshops, and other training venues (such as lunch-and-learn)
- Develop and execute Succession Planning strategies that develop future MTM leaders
- Ensure compliance with local, regional, and federal requirements
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the department
- Ability to work outside of typical business hours and travel as needed (domestically and internationally)
What You Bring
- High School Diploma or GED
- 3+ years’ relevant experience
- Understanding of laws and regulations governing employee access to training & development (ADA, EEOC, FMLA, OSHA, etc.)
- HRIS – LMS system experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build rapport with team members regardless of level within the organization
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of Products
What Will Set You Apart
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Business, Technical, or Engineering field
- 5+ years’ leadership experience in an Organizational Development or Learning and Development leadership role
- Experience in an automotive manufacturing environment with Lean Manufacturing Principles (such as TPS or Mazda One) preferable, but not required
- Experience as a training facilitator.
