Your Responsibilities


As a Senior Battery Management System Electronics Engineer for John Deere Power Systems located in Cary, NC, or Fargo, ND, you will...

  • Drive the design and development of lithium-ion battery management system hardware following the Product Delivery Process (PDP), ensuring all activities and plans are formulated, documented, and followed to launch the product into production.
  • Architect and design electronics for battery management systems with responsibilities ranging from architecture definition, circuit design, schematic generation, component selection, analysis, integration, and verification & validation.
  • Execute trade off analyses of potential battery management system designs considering cost, schedule, manufacturability, functionality, performance, reliability, safety, etc.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams on activities such as requirements definition, functional safety analyses, integration, testing, and production support.
  • Provide troubleshooting, root cause, and corrective action support for issues that arise during manufacturing, testing, and field operation.
  • Lead the exploration of advanced battery management system concepts (e.g. Wireless BMS, Novel Sensing, Active Balancing) and assess their associated benefits / applicability to future generation products.
  • Work closely with battery management system software and controls, systems, and product verification & validation (PV&V) along with battery cell/ pack/systems engineering teams to ensure desired battery management system features are delivered in support of expected functionality, performance, safety, and compliance.

What Skills You Need

  • 5 or more years of experience in product development
  • 3 or more years of experience in battery management system hardware design and development
  • 3 or more years of experience in electronic circuit design, schematic capture, and PCB layout  
  • 3 or more years of experience in electronic component and PCBA testing
  • 5 or more years of experience contributing as a core team member on a cross-functional product development team
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit design
  • Experience with design, simulation, test, and analysis tools
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 15%


What Makes You Stand Out

  • Understanding of lithium-ion battery technology trends, vehicle industry application trends, battery management system technology trends, and lithium-ion battery test approaches
  • Deep understanding of a variety of battery management system areas such as: architecture, hardware, software, controls, interface, sensing, safety, communication, integration, and testing
  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross functional battery management system software and controls, systems, and test engineering teams along with battery systems and test engineering teams
  • Experience working with globally diverse teams
  • Experience in DC high voltage power electronics design up to 1000V
  • Experience in design for EMC, reliability, testability, and manufacturability
  • Familiarity with functional safety and cyber security standards
  • Experience with installation, commissioning, and field support of lithium-ion batteries including diagnosing and troubleshooting battery system failures
  • Strong communication and project management skills  
  • Self-starter and passionate about vehicle electrification & battery technology  
  • Advanced technical degree in engineering, Master’s level or greater with emphasis on battery management systems hardware design
  • Experience with construction, agricultural, and turf vehicle engineering


Education

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar with relevant electronics experience
